From Bunker to Brilliance: ACC Reimagines Education
The Austin Community College District is reshaping higher education and revitalizing a community by transforming the former Highland Mall into a learning and training complex.

ACC Highland, a redevelopment project led by ACC in collaboration with partners in business and education, neighborhood groups, and community leaders, features flexible training facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, business incubator space, and mixed-use development including apartments, shops, parks, and office space.

Phase One of ACC Highland Campus opened in fall 2014. The campus features classrooms, learning labs, a library/media center, and the ACCelerator, the nation’s largest lab for individualized, modularized learning, with more than 600 computer stations.

The second phase of the ACC Highland project will expand ACC’s innovative learning environment with centers designed to accelerate pathways to high-demand careers, including a regional workforce development center featuring a “makerspace” and equipment for advanced Manufacturing, a STEM lab with simulation equipment for Health Sciences programs, a creative and digital arts complex, providing gallery and performing spaces that create opportunities for synergy between the performing and fine arts and the related technologies of IT, film, photography, and music, and a culinary arts complex with a student-run restaurant.

ACC Highland provides learning concepts that create momentum for students to persist and complete their education. For more information, visit
